Poor Man's Automation

Is there a way to automate a trading strategy without using any software that costs a monthly fee?

So far, I've found TDAmeritrade's StrategyDesk. It is completely free.

Interactive Brokers has a free API, and there are freeware products being developed that access it.

Yea you can program your own software ;)

For the first time, I agree.

The tester and execution platform should be custom made in terms of systematic trading. I've never seen (and never will see) a vendor/retail that is capable of the trading/testing I (or other professional pure systematic traders) do.

All vendor / retail platforms are like kid's training packages....

Don't agree with me? Give me one platform that utilizes Nash Equilibrium.

there's a platform called 'ticktrader'. looks kinda cool. and i noticed they have a free version for testing.
i saw a demo featuring the platform on youtube that was interesting..
i've never heard a single review however. i think they're pretty new.

here's the youtube piece i referred to...
i've never used this platform or have any connection.

i was looking for a similar setup. i wanted to develop strats and didn't want the monthly fees. i found a copy of tradestation 2000i on ebay. it's completely 'standalone'. with Ib data, it's a fair package. certainly a poor man's way...

ninjatrader might be an option as well. bottom line tho, there are costs involved. i had to open an account w/ IB. (gotta have a broker regardless - right?). you'll need data as well.

so, there are solutions.. just take some time, figure out the best path that fits your needs.
