Polythiests: How to god?

Anyone know much about gods (plural). Finding them, dealing with them, benefiting from them?

Not to insult anyone but from what I understand they are like drug addicts. They want as much of your soul as they can get, for as little result, and make sure they do the work because once you pay them they are off to go smoke it and forget about you and your pesky desires.

Am I wrong?

Or is "gods" some market slang for a mentor or coach or investor or something?
