The education establishment likes to blather about teaching kids to think for themselves and examine their assumptions and cultural norms. In practice this means liberal indoctrination.

My tenure as a public school teacher would be measured in hours probably.

That seems optimistic.

I have difficulty imagining your tenure would last even an hour- unless perhaps it were a tiny schoolroom in the deep south, where the children come from families which cling fast to the notion that Lincoln duped "their" country.

620,000 and I believe that was just military personnel.

It seems you, Leap-up and others believe Lincoln had pushed for an unnecessary the war against the south, resulting in a massive death toll.

I am curious though- without the Civil War, How would slavery have ended?

Would it have just faded after another century or so?

Polyester. Without cotton and tobacco, all the South had was fried chicken.

Perhaps- but raising and frying chickens still takes hard work, and profits are much less when the cost of labor has to be added to the overhead.

You'd have to admit that it's much more difficult to get a business off the ground when you have to actually pay for labor.

And not only did they lose their free labor, but now (after the emancipation), paid laborers were actually allowed to walk off the job.

So it was kind of a double whammy for them.

I guess the saving grace came when the Chinese, Mexicans and Irish happened along and were willing to work at near slave labor wages.

Experts rank Trump as worst president, Obama 8th best

A panel of 170 presidential politics experts considers Trump the worst president in history, according to rankings published by the New York Times. Obama is 8th, with Lincoln, Washington and Franklin Roosevelt holding the top three spots. The same experts ranked Buchanan last and Obama 18th in 2014.

Notable movements: Clinton slid from 8th to 13th and Jackson from 9th to 15th, "arguably the result of contemporary scorn for [Clinton's] treatment of women, and for evolving attitudes on [Jackson's] treatment of Native Americans," per the Times. George W. Bush moved from 35th up to 30th.

Historians have ranked Barack Obama the 12th best president of all time, the highest rated since President Ronald Reagan, in a new C-SPAN survey released Friday.

Less than a month after exiting the White House, Obama received high marks from presidential historians for his pursuit of "equal justice for all" and for his commanding "moral authority," ranking third and seventh among all former presidents in each respective category. The 44th president also cracked a top 10 ranking for his "economic management" and public persuasion.
