Please don't get too offended but the US has a dismal record of overspending and waste of lives in their foreign policies in recent decades. From isolation in the 1930s to all-in involvement ! Being an ocean away from the rest of the world doesn't make it easy but ...........
Take the present situation in The Crimea for instance. Heading for the usual disaster. The Crimea was part of Russia before 1954 and it is not worth wrecking the world economy over. Many thousands are being affected and many of them are not even Russian. They had a democratic vote to go, so a sensible man would have let them go.
