Tax Foundation rates tax plans: Who comes out on top?

"With the field of six candidates, there's a wide range of tax proposals, each of which have different effects on your wallet. For one, GOP front-runner Donald Trump's plan would slash tax rates for everyone. The real estate mogul is seeking to eliminate the current top individual income tax rate of 39.6 percent and create three tax brackets: 10 percent, 20 percent and 25 percent.

That said, a few observers have their doubts.

"I don't think it's viable," Tax Foundation President Scott Hodge told CNBC. "I think it's a dramatic overreach and an over-promise."

Established in 1937, The Tax Foundation is an independent, non-partisan tax policy research organization. For the current election cycle, the organization compared the economic effects of each of the candidates' tax plans..."

My opinion on these analysis by established think tanks is that it is very difficult for them to see outside the box they are in.

I believe that no taxing system will work. I believe that when sentient robots with no feelings exist, why do we need teachers when we can have the best teachers for free? Why do we need people to build bridges and highways when robots can do it automatically free?

The solution, as usual, is technology defines away the problem. Still, it is worth thinking about the current situation until the Singularity arrives.

That's all I think about is taxes. I bitch about the government all the time. But my only real interaction with them is on April 15. Taxes are everything. The whole power of Washington D.C. is neatly gift wrapped in 70,000 pages of corporate tax law.

Everyone knows we should elimininate corporate taxes, but nobody will do it because that is where their power comes from.

What?
yes, What? What is your problem with eliminating corporate taxes? Corporations are People My Friend. And people can be taxed when they get paid. Whether it is Div, Int, or W-2. I'm too stoned right now to think about 1099, but if you are in business for yourself you can form a corporation and only be taxed on what you pay yourself. And that rate will be very extremely progressive. Something to think about.

Not speaking for Tsing, but I think he was questioning your logic. If corporations are the primary source of political power why wouldn't a politician support lowering corporate taxes?

Because it is better for large corporations to lobby for tax laws that allow them to shift the majority of their income overseas to "no tax" havens. Much better for corporations than an agenda to lower the U.S. corporate tax rate which they don't need to care about.

I agree the larger corps. with operations abroad don't care about US corporate tax rates nearly as much as those who lump them in with the many domestic SMEs believe. It goes without saying the latter would like to see rates reduced.

The large corps and their officers are the ones who donate the large money to candidates and hire lobbying firms. The small / medium business segment doesn't mean much to national politicians.

oh no my friend. A politician will always support lowering the tax of the corporation that is bribing him. But never support eliminating their tax, because that would mean eliminating their need to bribe him.
