Here, in the camp of socialism: reciprocal confidence and peace, national liberty and equality, the pacific co-existence and fratemal collaboration of peoples.

Right up until they built walls on their border and shot people trying to escape....

For me america is a great example of what should be achieved by any country and I will never discuss that. What scares me is certainly its foreign policy. Aphie's words were great and I hope there were more americans like him. Not people that uses others customs in order to perpetrate an attack. This will just lead to the contrary effect.

What I learned about Iran is just very interesting. Women were forbidden to veil themselves and they could go to prison because of that. Shah was a dictator backed by the US and replacing the great man Mossadech who wanted to nationalize the oil resources of his country. After all this is his right. The USA would have done the same. What happened next is that he has been killed by the CIA replaced by a dictator and this brought the islamic revolution. These were the effects... Not the opening of Iran but its closing. Especially that after that we armed Saddam to attack violently the Iranian people. Nobody is neutral in this conflict, everyone has his stake of responsibility. Many million Iranian and Irakis died and all of that could have been avoided.

The danger is that the whole region transforms itself into a big Iran. And if it continues that way, there are great chances...

Quote from Madison:

No doubt. America is the ideal, in theory at least. That is why it's necessary to analyze and criticize policies that run counter to the things that made America great.

The Constitution. The Bill of Rights. Freedom of speech and of dissent. Equal power of vote. The concept of equals living under a rule of law, not heredity or title or land ownership. The ability to pursue liberty. Freedom, to the extent possible. These were revolutionary when enacted, and sadly are still rare in the world. These made America great, not antagonistic foreign policies, preemptive 3rd-world military strikes at the behest of special interest groups, or doubletalk media propaganda.

And America already has them - the task is to DEFEND them, both from fanatics and from politicians. I took what Aphie said in that light - I didn't see it as stupid at all.

:) good point.

Arab counts for less than 20% of the total muslim population.
And even the notion of arabs is not exact. Arab is a person that speaks arabic. The real arabs are the arabs from arbia saudia, but the others have diverse origins.

Quote from fairplay:

Indonesia is the largest Muslim nation in the world with a population of over 220 million people: who cares about Arabs?

She was jailed for corruption reasons. By the way it's gher husband that was jailed I don't remember Bhutto being jailed. and the present dictator is a very good friend of the USA unfortunately. I think that this should change, but what can you do with the US backings???

Quote from dgabriel:

Benazir Bhutto was jailed, and Pakistan is now under military rule following a coup. Not quite one's democratic ideal.

I think there is a tendency to confuse a Taliban style Muslim state with its medeval restrictions and abuses of women with other states with muslim populations, where the restrictions and abuses are of a more modern flavor.

rs7,

measured by the freedom to "have their fingernails done at their local beauty salons" all Arab women have certainly been on the forefront of the "Womens´Liberation Front" ... at least 2000 years before the Pilgrim Fathers were washed ashore the US of A.

You see Rs7,

Jordan. Palestinian used to live in Palestine not Jordan. Palestine is their country and it was occupied by Israelis. History is history and what is done is done, but don't ask the palestinians to stay in a country that is not theirs.

If you had lived all your life in NY and then one day, Saddam hussein attacks NY and chase you from it. what would you do???

Sincerely??? even if you had a palce ten thousand times better than it you would still prefer NY. The same applies for palestinian. This is their land and a solution must be found. On top of that Jerusalem is a holy place for all the muslims of the world (1 billion).

Your friend went to Jordania. I am sure you can go. Ask anyway. Syria is in doubt but even though, it is not written on your passport that you are jewish. Many people go to Israel, Egypt then Syria. You are just scared for nothing. That really amuses me. like your friend that went to paris and said it is filled with palestinian. Too funny. There are certainly more jews in paris Than there are palestinian in the Gaza strip..

So frankly I am quite convinced you would have no difficulty entering any arab country. The only one in doubt is Saudia and Iraq. All the others are possible.

Concerning the woman they do have all the rights of a normal citizen. and concerning make up and nails since this is your obsession let me reassure you, they also can do that. I think that it is even more important in that part of the world than in the US or europe :)

Quote from rs7:

I was pretty sure I specifically said Islamic Arab countries. If not, then I apologize for my inaccuracy.
However, now that I have cleared the issue (hopefully) what rights do Islamic Women In Arab Countries have?

And no I cannot go to Syria with a passport stamped in Israel. (for example). Nor Iraq. And as for the other "neighbors" of Israel, I am pretty sure the same holds true. Though a friend of mine did get into Jordan with an Isreali stamped passport. I will ask her the circumstances and let you know how she did it. If it was easy or a roundabout kind of thing. Either way, she brought back photos. Very beautiful. (She did have a difficult time re-entering Israel however).

How come the Palestinians did not want to stay there? (Jordan?)

Peace,
:)rs7

Please not you don't use that kinds of remarks.

Just between France and Germany there are many cases of fathers that stole their child and vice versa. and This is just enormous. The Law is sometimes incapable of doing anything.
That does not mean that Saudis do not steal their child but anyone with a child would do whatever is possible to have his child and you know it. It has nothing to do with religion, race or anything else. If they had a child, ie they loved each other and then when it stops it's just terrible..

I am sure that there are thousadn of cases between mexico and the USA or The USA and Canada.

Quote from ElCubano:

Nothing is perfect...but just take a moment to think about what I posted...Consider yourself lucky that you were born in such a great Country even with its faults....trust me....The World is an ugly place, sometimes the grass isnt greener on the other side of the fence........peace and jasperilla :D

P.S. That Elian picture was a cheap shot by the way. To think that American Children and Women are held agaisnt their will in Saudi Arabia. American Children with Saudi Fathers are taken from their American Mothers with the help of the Saudi Government........Just Sad

Saudi Arabia is the only Country in the World where an AMERICAN CITIZEN; be it a child or woman, can and are held agaisnt their will...This is a fact, period. There are cases upon cases of this. Yes custody battles do get ugly, but held agaisnt their will is more than ugly..........peace

As much as I would've loved Elian to stay in this country. His only living Parent wanted him back. Although it was ugly, he is back with his father. Which is more than I can say for the Woman and Children being held against their will in Saudi Arabia...What the fuck is that all about???....
