The only way that a person can comprehend a culture is to go there and visit the people in their natural habitat (atleast) or live among them for some time (for best results).
Then you come to understand that different people have different strengths and weaknesses.
I don't know why TF gets so prickly about this. The Middle Eastern culture is known for many virtuous characteristics. For example, their hospitality is unmatched in the world.
But lets not kid ourselves. Anyone who truly knows the culture will tell you that they are known [cough] to take some liberties with the facts....and to haggle with you till you're both hoarse.
Many cultures are proud of their character. For example, the Catalan are actually take pride and make jokes about their tight fistedness.
Recently on a trip in Spain a gentleman pointed to a duro (5 cent equvalent) on the floor of the bar and said, 'you know I am not cheap enough to pick that up'.
He reached into his pocket and fished out a 2 Euro coin. He promptly chucked it on the floor right beside the smaller coin.
Then he looked at me with a sly smile and said, 'But... 2.05 Euros!! That is another thing!'
And he bent down and picked up both coins!!
I laughed my ass off and truly appreciated this guy who could make fun of himself as a Catalan.
