POLL: If You Had to Choose a Tax Haven...

The list was compiled as the top 10 resulting from two points of view: total tax levy AND had to be in the top half of the list of countries internationally recognized from an openness/democracy point of view. (Hint: North Korea was near the bottom on point number 2.)

NOTE: Tiny countries like Nevis did not usually make the democracy list...
 
UAE is a real tax haven, but it has serious problems, you can't apply for citizenship, you only become a UAE citizen if your father (mother?) is a UAE citizen, your money could easily be confiscated, specially if someone comes to believe islamic religious laws mandate him to do so

it's really hard to find a safe country where tax is 0%
 
Bahamas for me..I would always want to be close to the U.S.

This is just my preference with all those that I would still need to interact with on a continual basis. Travel time would be short when needed.
 
NZ looks really nice and when I travelled around in my youth (5yrs in youth hostels) - all the Kiwis I met were really nice people, so if NZ is really a tax haven then that'd be my vote.
 
Here are some notes that came from the final list (not every country had notes):

• The Bahamas levies neither personal income nor capital gains tax, nor are there inheritance taxes.
• Barbados - A 'Low-tax regime' not 'Tax haven'. - The government of Barbados sent off a high level note to members of the United States Congress recently in protest of the label "Tax Haven" stating it has the potential to undermine or override the Barbados/United States double taxation agreement.[21]
• Belize
• Bulgaria - corporate taxes 10 % since 2007.01.01, dividends - 7 %
• Cyprus: this jurisdiction has grown recently in popularity and anticipates further future growth. As a jurisdiction Cyprus is in a position to exploit its unusual position as an offshore jurisdiction which is within the EU.
• Luxembourg
• Malta - Shareholders of certain companies pay less than 5% tax
• New Zealand does not tax foreign income derived by NZ trusts settled by foreigners of which foreign residents are the beneficiaries. Nor does it tax the foreign income of new residents for four years.
• Panama
• Uruguay no personal income tax.
