Very good observation, thanks. I've been thinking this same thought lately but related to the economy in general, not just speculative markets.

If money ever goes up in value this is exactly what happens - fewer and fewer transactions which has a doom-loop effect, exacerbating the appreciation of the currency and sending it under mattresses.

In other words, always go with the trend, and stocks (no matter how fundamentally unsound) get bid because the banks know how to devalue the money slowly enough to keep you spending.
