Quote from ericmindich:
Ever notice that when you go into some "Chinese" restaurants the food served is not really "Chinese"? Its Americanized food and the Chinese do not really eat that in China. The owners of the restaurant Americanized the food so that they can make more money.
In the same way, Baron is also motivated by money. If you havent noticed, there are several ads prominently displayed all over the website. From conversations with various blog owners, about 10,000 visits gives them about 70 dollars. The average user clicks on 8 pages and is here on average 10 minutes per day (twice as much time spent on the average blog). I would estimate that Baron probably makes at least six figures from this website alone in gross revenue per year. The site is probably worth in the millions of dollars. Baron doesnt do very much, mind you, because of moderators willing to work for free in return for meeting with popular traders and Baron on the board.
Baron will do what it takes to get the sponsors in the door and generate more webhits. Some of the material is not really related to trading, but attracts other people that puts Elitetrader.com at the top of google.
Landis, is it so wrong to operate a business and be a capitalist? You, of all people, with your extensive financial background, should be able to see that this website is a money making enterprise.
Im not certain why you are so shocked and stunned over the fact that Baron has been very successful at making money through this website. I kind of believe you might be jealous of Baron and his ability to make money through a website like this.
If you really want a very dry trading site with no drama...where all they talk about is setups and analysis, then my suggestion to you is to make your own. Certainly, you will see that it is very challenging to build and moderate such a site and in such a manner so as to attract sponsors that are willing to put money on the table.
Its easy to stand there from afar and criticize someone's work. However, your attitude will soon change when you realize the challenges that Baron faces day in and day out with this money making enterprise. Try making your own site and then come back here and tell us your experiences. Your attitude would surely change...
It is apparent that Landis knows nothing of operating a
small or medium size business, otherwise he would under
stand the proprietors angle. Get lost Landis. Douchebag.
