yes , yes , yes, I'm not talking about the usual government negligence. keeping it simple
 
I say it's a possibility. Why? Because (1) it's the kind of thing that could be used to "move an agenda along, (2) it's not "unthinkible" for a power hungry politician to do such a thing... they've done worse, you know... and (3) the heinous Patriot Act was passed so quickly thereafter.... like it had been waiting in the wings for the right moment to be sprung upon us.

I didn't think about this possibility at first... but it was the first thought I had after hearing about the Patriot Act being passed so soon thereafter.
