AAA, we agree obviously agree that the ballot was confusing. If it was the Democrats who were in control of the PBC election board, as they were, how does this make it OK for Pabst to think it's humorous that the elderly were in many cases at a disadvantage as far as casting their votes as to their will?

To me, that attitude is sad. That is not about politics. That is just about being a narrow minded and mean spirited person. And bigoted in regard to old people. Which, if we are lucky, we will all be ourselves someday. Maybe Pabst has figured out a better alternative. And I know he is no spring chicken himself. I only hope Pabst regrets his remarks, and will admit (at least to himself) that he just made an inappropriate remark.

If all those seniors had meant to vote for Buchanan, and the ballot caused them to vote for Bush instead, I would find the situation EXACTLY as unfortunate. The ballot was badly designed, and in 2000, it was mis-aligned so badly as to make it virtually impossible for anyone under 5'5 to have been able to cast THE VERY FIRST VOTE on the "butterfly" ballot with ANY degree of certainty. I am 6 feet tall, and after I punched the FIRST CHAD which was for PRESIDENT, I found myself not so sure after casting a few more votes if I had definitely made my FIRST "punch" where I had intended. Not being 90, I knew enough how to check without ruining the ballot.


As for blacks being kept away from the polling places, I know this is true from the mouth of a woman I know who's relatives in central Florida were stopped. I don't believe she is lying to me. She is a 60 ish Jamaican woman who has been working for my friend for over 20 years all of which I have known her. Police were stopping cars filled with African Americans on their entry to the polling places. If they could not produce two forms of picture ID, or whatever ridiculous legal technicality was employed to accomplish preventing the people from getting to the polls, that is pretty much how it happened (as I was told, and believe). This was pretty widely reported. But it's different hearing about it than reading about it in the press. (Not that the local press in central Florida isn't more right wing than not).

And if you really think the Democrats are the party of Boss Daley, what can I say? Tell me what the Democratic party is to you? Too liberal? Wasn't it the liberal wing of the Democratic party responsible for BANNING Daley from the 1972 Democratic Convention?

You know, I don't understand how you "Clinton Haters" can make such over the top assumptions about how anyone who doesn't think GWB is a good President thinks about everything else.

I wouldn't be so sure that "Daley Democrats" are not now registered Republicans. For sure, the Republican Party of today is more "Kennedyesque" then it is "Eisenhoweresqe" (if those are words:confused:)

Anyway, it's a long long time between now and next November. That is the main thing about why this thread's premise is so irrelevant.

How fucking over sensitive can you be!! Was it because my humor had an element of truth to it? As you said, I'm no kid either. In fact my folks live in SoFla and are well into their 70's. Somehow they were able to figure out how to vote, (of course as former Chicagoans they know the gimmicks, LOL).

I certainly prefer seniors to snot nosed kids. What I don't like is this group of older urban voters who are proud that they are carrying on the socialist tradition of FDR. You see RS, what I think is funny is a nation of people who think they are truly free, yet must pay 35% of their wages to the Federal government, another 5% to their state, thousands in property taxes, and then are nickel and dimed by sales taxes, gasoline taxes, personal property taxes, utility taxes, and phone taxes. Not to mention licenses, stickers and permits. and then you die and pay a 55% estate tax! I believe work is life, and that a man's earnings are somewhat sacrosanct. I was not created to work over half the year in order to pay taxes. This nation is clearly divided. The most fundamental split though in all of Western society is the following reality, fully half the people living think the other half owes them something.

Perhaps I became embittered toward's the left after I lost my considerable trading stake in my early thirties. Even though I had coughed up a couple hundred thousand in taxes, I was suddenly working minimum wage jobs trying to get back on my feet. At one stretch I was unemployed for 6 months, However I never blamed society. After all it was me who was an un disciplined trader. It was me who dropped out of school to become a trader at the CBOT. It was me who smoked, toked and drank every spare dollar I had. It was me who had better work hard, when work could be found, so that I could come back. I still remember scrounging together a couple of bucks for a cheap flank steak and standing in the checkout line behind a woman who was buying a deluxe cake from the in store bakery with $18 in food stamps. To this day I still struggle, albeit now with some cushion. But when I hear "tax cuts for the rich", I cringe. I don't want Bill Gate's money, or Michael Dell's money. All I want from them is their products in exchange for some of my wages. So yes RS, when in my view the debate hinges between an obnoxious over taxing government, led by the Congressional Demo tax policies of the past 60 years, vs. the GOP, a party that at least rolls back some of the insanity, it's serious business to me.

Little David was in his 5th grade class in a school in Washington when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living.
All the typical answers came up -- Fireman, policeman, salesman, etc...

David was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father.

"My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men.
Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll make love for money."

The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some class work, and took Little David aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?"
"No," said David, "He works for the Bush administration, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."


(Hey Aphie, give it a few hours before you move it to the "Jokes" thread...if Pabst and AAA are entitled to laughs in this thread, I say so is everyone).

Pabst mentioned about 50 taxes in his post. Not sure he was saying the estate tax effects him. Maybe it does, but I don't think that was the point. The point is that since the Great Society American middle class has opted for a free lunch. Now they find out it's a dick sandwich.

Speaking of angering our right wing brothers...

I was listening to my favoite talk show host Sean Hannity today, and he was bemoaning the fact that some people were trying to get a radio station to drop his radio program. Seems a group of who don't like his negative comments were tired of his act (today Hannity had on a proud liberal taking issue with Hannity's comments, and Hannity said liberals are okay....just don't let your daughter marry one---now just plug in "Jew" "Spic" "Spic" "Jap" "Beaner" or any other ethnic or racial group into where Hannity said liberal and you catch my drift).

So the group decided to go to local advertisers and tell the advertisers they were going to stop supporting the business of those advertisers and boycott those advertisers if Hannity were allowed to stay on the radio.

Hannity had a minor fit, but as I recall, he was the first to defend those who wanted to boycott the Dixie Chicks or any other group or individuals that spoke in "liberal" terms about the war. He was also very supportive of those groups that complained to advertisers about the Ronald Reagan movie and eventually got it yanked from non cable consumption.

Then after the necessary time on his own pitty pot, as sure as rain is right, his own ditto heads called in to say how evil it was for these people to exercise their political power against poor innocent Sean and threaten to boycott advertisers of a radio station.

Too funny.
