Poll: 58 Percent Say Professional Athletes Should Be Required to Stand During National Anthem

There are going to be some fights in the Green Bay Packer stadium when military veterans refuse to link arms and instead stand with the right hand over their hearts. Setting up a situation which causes your fans to have conflicts is incredibly stupid on the part of team management.

Green Bay Wi is only 3.5% black and if the spectators in this almost all white crowd decide to ditch putting their hands over their heart in favor of linking arms to show their solidarity with diversity and multiculturalism, we'll know the country is toast.

Well -- first -- where do you get the 53% figure?

Second - I generally agree with the statement. I do not think it is appropriate for the president to comment on “how the NFL and its players conduct themselves during the national anthem" when there is far more pressing national business to attend to.

Third - I also believe that kneeling for the national anthem is incredibly disrespectful as a form of protest. The majority of Americans agree with me on this.

1. 53% is from a Reuters article published 17 hours ago. TT did not post his source and is not trustworthy IMO, the sources may be slightly different. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...uring-anthem-reuters-ipsos-poll-idUSKCN1C1304

2. Yes. He has made something small a mess (like Korea) and is distracting the media from important national matters, hurricane recovery being just a part.

3. The national flag is being hijacked for grossly cynical purposes, something about it being appropriated as belonging most to the military seems very wrong.

The article I quoted does say that the majority against this form of protest, in a football game is on a decreasing trend right now.

I am sympathetic to the concept of collective respect due to tradition though it be superficial. There needs to be some reference point for society on who "we" are for any nation. This Colin guy did what his conscience told him at the beginning. He started by sitting on the bench I gather but a player appealed to him to kneel instead as this was more respectful not to sit on his ass. Good or bad idea, it was just one guy.

A molehill has been made into a mountain for cynical political gain. This is the disrespect making normal people feel sick.

Not well written but I'm heading out the door. :)

While we certainly disagree on some items. Your response is complete and reasonable -- getting your points across in a positive engaging manner. An example of the civility I hope to see more of in this forum.

If he's being less than kooky now, maybe I was a bit hasty in blocking his posts. I'll remove him.

You don't have to trust the source, but I did post it. If you re-review the first post in this thread, you'll see the word "say" has a link.

But if you missed it, here it is again - the original poll.

I am hoping for improvement of civil discourse in this forum and respectful exchanges between posters. I will applaud examples as we go along -- hoping that others will follow in the same direction.

Would love it.

Unfortunately, in order for it to be more civil, posters on both sides need to be more fair in their assessments of happenings. When someone criticizes one side all the time and then makes excuses for the exact same behavior on the other side, that's when the discussion degenerates because there's no point in having discussion with someone who is not willing to concede fair points.

I am pretty sure that before long everyone will be standing with their hands over their crotch to show support for transgenders because some guy who self-identifies as a woman is now playing with the NFL. Think I am kidding? Let the viewers decide.
