Poll: 58 Percent Say Professional Athletes Should Be Required to Stand During National Anthem

Even with an oversampling of democrats. Just goes to show how far left you've got to be to support it. Also goes to show how the President should STFU and stay out of it, with his temper tantrum tweets making things worse (for him and the situation).

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that Americans overwhelmingly support requiring professional athletes to stand during the National Anthem.

Fifty-eight percent say that athletes “should be required to stand” during the National Anthem. Thirty-three percent disagreed, and nine percent of respondents said they didn’t know.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump proposed that the NFL set a rule forbidding athletes to kneel during the National Anthem.

The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations. The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can't kneel during our National Anthem!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 26, 2017

Despite their support for the National Anthem, a majority of respondents supported allowing athletes to express political views at sporting events. Forty-nine percent supported it, while only 33 percent disagreed. (Seven percent didn’t know.)

The numbers show, however, that a majority of Americans opposed ex-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s protest during the National Anthem.

Fifty-one percent opposed Kaepernick’s protest, while only 40 percent supported it. (Nine percent said they didn’t know.)

The NFL is also getting poor marks for their handling of the issue.

Forty-three percent of Americans polled in the survey said that they disapproved of the NFL’s handling of the issue while only 36 percent approved.

Despite their opposition to the protests, Americans in the survey were less supportive of President Donald Trump’s decision to weigh in on the topic.

Fifty-three percent said that the president shouldn’t comment on how NFL players conducted themselves during the national anthem; 35 percent were supportive. Fifty-seven percent said that the NFL should not fire athletes who protested during the National Anthem.

The polling sample included roughly 1,6226 adults including 628 Democrats, 583 Republicans, and 222 Independents.

Since kneeling for the national anthem is considered incredibly disrespectful by at least 58% of the nation's population would you consider having the NFL players protesting in another manner such as wearing armbands or wearing cleats that bring attention to their cause?

This would be far more beneficial to promoting their agenda while not infuriating the majority of the country's population -- and the symbolism would be present the entire game rather than just at the beginning.

And that's why it won't happen. They're going to go for the most impactful way to protest, and right now, that is kneeling. They don't care about pissing people off, and will have to be forced down a lesser path by the NFL.

Let's face it, most of these folks aren't gifted with vast amounts of common sense. Yep, I said it.

"53 percent of Americans do not think it is appropriate for the president to comment on “how the NFL and its players conduct themselves during the national anthem.”

Now the Green Bay Packers are asking that everyone in the stands link arms during the national anthem.
Apparently they think that showing your support for black player's hatred of white people and country in this manner during the anthem doesn't count as disrespect.

Well -- first -- where do you get the 53% figure?

Second - I generally agree with the statement. I do not think it is appropriate for the president to comment on “how the NFL and its players conduct themselves during the national anthem" when there is far more pressing national business to attend to.

Third - I also believe that kneeling for the national anthem is incredibly disrespectful as a form of protest. The majority of Americans agree with me on this.

There are going to be some fights in the Green Bay Packer stadium when military veterans refuse to link arms and instead stand with the right hand over their hearts. Setting up a situation which causes your fans to have conflicts is incredibly stupid on the part of team management.

The cowboys wanted to wear decals on their helmets honoring the 5 cops who got shot in Dallas, Goodell blocked it, another player tried wearig cleats in memory of 9/11 goodell blocked it, though i doubt he would block an anti cop message, there seems to be a precedent of not being allowed to wear shit as a symbol.

I expect the league to make an exception for the current protest.

The good news is that soon as they allow an exception for this current protest, it opens the door that they must allow all other protests based on cleats, helmets, armbands, etc. So if the NFL in the future refuses to allow helmets honoring cops there will be all sorts of blow-back.
