Police State Road Blocks...get ready for more of this...........

Another ET thread that cracks me up. "War stories" from well bred suburban white folk who were singled out and asked for ID! Oh, the humanity....

This from the same guys who wonder why police can't ask Mexican's to display a valid ID card or face deportation.

I could tell you about the time I was thrown in a Mexican jail.

I fully admit I was a naive, punk, freshman college student. But shit man, can a fricking cop walk up to any "well bred suburban white folk" on the fricking street and demand identification?! "Facism" has been a regular topic on this board ... that borders it.

Not long after I graduated, the local cops were handing out $40,000 dollar fines for house parties. That's right FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS for "operating taverns without licenses."

Moral of the story, if you aren't doing anything wrong, don't do anything wrong.

Borders it? That is it. Back during the cold war, one of the ways we, in the US, used to distinguish ourselves from them under the 'Iron curtain' of totalitarianism was that they could be stopped at any time and asked to produced 'papers'.

Quote from ZZZzzzzzzz:

Behavior is demonstrable, recordable, verifiable, etc.

A "sixth sense" is not.

I am not opposed to profiling of behavior, if the standards are objective and reasonable. As I have mentioned before, it is not a violation of any law I know of to "look suspicious" or even look like a criminal.

Race, religion, etc. are not behaviors directly, so I don't support profiling of race or religion, etc.

We saw the incident at the airports, where the Muslim men were detained, because their behavior was noticed by many to be suspicious. Their behavior, not their garb, or religion, or race.

Had these men acted normally, there would have been no issue.

By the way, seen any lawsuits filed by these men yet for harassment?

Nope, because their behavior was suspicious, and many people observed it.

We need cops, don't get me wrong. However, power can go to the heads of many people, some people become cops not really to protect and serve, but for the power trip.

We need vigilance to observe behavior that is truly suspicious and warrants examination, and equally we need to be vigilant not to allow racists or power freaks to abuse their position.

Power corrupts, this is a fact of life, seen from the beginning of recorded history.

Power to the people simply means that the power ultimately is in the hands of the people, not in the hands of lawmakers, or those who execute the law.

You know AAA, if you weren't so partisan, I think you would probably see more of the abuse of power by the current administration. For nearly 6 years they darn near absolute power controlling all branches of government.

If dems had the same power, I would be just as concerned.

I think you should be concerned as well...

A suspect doesn't have to be violating the law to give the police probable cause to detain them, ask questions or search them. They only need a reasonable suspiscion, which can be a taillight being out, an obscured license plate or erratic driving suggesting DUI.

Having said all that, I would advise people, particularly young people, not to do what this guy did. He got some minor harrassment. A lot of police departments, he might have gotten a flashlight up side his head and a charge of resisting arrest.

And that's a sad state of affairs. Why do you guys tolerate such a neanderthal neo-nazi police force?

Repeat the phrase "Your papers, please", in a germanic accent, sufficient times until you start to get the chills & images of gas chambers flash through your mind. Then remind yourself you are in 2007 America and people are getting asked the same thing, and being hauled off to jail if they don't comply.

are u guys aware of the huge concentration camps built by fema?

they are massive and can accommodate 100s of thousands of americans.

have u seen them?

Are you allowed to carry a gun in your car Cutten? Your home? On your person in a bar? We are.

The U.K. is WAY MORE oppressive than the States.
