"But in a Feb. 29 interrogation, lead investigator Chris Serino openly doubts the story.
âYou ever hear of Murphyâs law?â asks Serino. âThis person was not doing anything bad. You know the name of the person that died?â
âTavon,â responds Zimmerman
âTrayvon,â Serino shot back.
âTrayvon Martinâ responds Zimmerman.
âTrayvon Benjamin Martinâ¦He was 17â¦A kid with a future,â said Serino. âIn his possession we found a can of ice tea and a bag of Skittles. And $40 in cash. Not the goon.â
Serino then peppered Zimmerman about if he had any law enforcement experience, and why he deemed Martin suspicious and decided to follow him.
âYou know you are going to come under a lot of scrutiny over this, correct?â asks Serino. âHad this person been white would you have felt the same way?â
âYes,â responded Zimmerman.
Serino then questioned the extent of Zimmermanâs injuries telling him that they donât seem consistent with someone involved in a life or death struggle. A medical report obtained earlier by ABC News revealed that Zimmerman suffered a broken nose and two lacerations on the back of his head.
Another investigator then asked why didnât he just identify himself as a member of the local neighborhood watch. Both investigators then ask if it was raining outside, and if he decided not to follow Martin after the non-emergency dispatcher asked him to get back in the car why didnât he.
âYou wanted to catch him. You wanted to catch the bad guy,â said Serino aggressively later in the interview, implying that it was Zimmerman who instigated the altercation.

"What is it about George Zimmermanâs family that they just canât tell the truth?
Yesterday, George Zimmermanâs wife, Shellie, was arrested and released on $1000 bail after she committed perjury during a June 1 bond hearing where she told prosecutors and a judge that she had no knowledge of how much donation money was collected from her husbandâs support website.
Zimmerman had collected close to $135,000 in donations to his website and not only did she lie about the money, but prosecutors found that she transferred $74,000 out of George's account four days before telling a courtroom she had no knowledge of any money.
They also found that Zimmerman told his wife to pay off their American Express bill and their Sam's Club card while in jail and he apparently, while in jail, talked to a bank manager in Seminole County about transferring his account to his wife.
Prosecutors contend that the Zimmermans also spoke about the money "in code" during recorded jailhouse phone calls. Shellie will be arraigned on July 31 to face her perjury charges.
The lies donât stop at Mrs. Zimmerman, when the news broke of his sonâs arrest, George Zimmermanâs father, Robert, conducted an interview and told a few half-truths in an attempt to come to his sonâs aide.
In late March, Robert Zimmerman told MyFox Orlando that:
"It's my understanding that Trayvon Martin got on top of him and just started beating him."
He said he felt his son has been portrayed in the wrong way. He also said he and his family have received death threats and asked that they not show his face on camera.
As for accounts from Trayvon Martin's girlfriend, who says she was on the phone with Martin right before the altercation, he said:
"I don't believe that happened. I don't believe she was on the phone with him, and I find it very strange with the publicity involved... that all of a sudden, after three weeks, someone would remember that they were on the phone."
Turns out Trayvon's girlfriend was telling the truth as it is on record that she was talking to him before Zimmerman killed him."
"The night Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin he told police that he had a clean record when in fact, he had been charged in 2005 with resisting arrest during an altercation with a state alcohol officer."
"When Zimmerman offered an apology to Trayvon's family during an April 20 bond hearing, Zimmerman said he didn't realize Trayvon was so young. But in his call to police moments before the shooting he described Trayvon, who was 17, as in his "late teens."
"Shellie, while testifying under oath by telephone, said the couple had no savings. At that moment, the couple had at least $135,000 that she had transferred into her credit-union account a few days earlier from a PayPal account that Zimmerman had set up to collect donations."
