Brown was probably a genius like Einstein. I think he run towards the martian spaceship in the sky to be teleported to the spaceship. Then he stop run other direction when spaceship moved behind him and the location of the teleporter changed. As spaceship took off out of sight, he began to walk. The police man keep shooting at Brown the whole time and was so fixated on spaceship he didn't even realize he was being hit by bullets.
