Poker and the Beginning Trader

I think the credit card companies put the merchants through a qualifying process. A bogus or fraudulent merchant could cause them alot of grief so they run credit checks and want to know about your business.

An online casino probably could set up a front-company, but I think it wouldn't be long before the fraud guys at the credit card companies would be on to it. They are really down on the casinos and strip joints because when the bill comes people say "Hey, that wasn't ME! I'd never do a thing like that!"

That makes sense. I hadnt really thought much about it before. So a credit card company will not accept your number from any company that is not registered with them. I find that comforting. Thanks.
 
Of the variety of funding methods for casino sites, regular credit cards look like the least desirable in several ways.

Aside from not allowing their cards to be used for this, there's larger interest charges or fees if you do manage to use credit card.

Not only is there NETeller and FirePay and PrepaidATM, but on some sites there's also Citadel, ACH, and Gaming Card.

Why pay fees and charges for moving money when there are forms of payment without any charges readily available.

yeah, right - thanks for outing me, bud :) Did I come on here and post it when you lost on the previous night? lol

But seriously...I am unsure what to do in situations like that - I need to read some material on ultra-low hold-em because I played correctly a few times and got beaten by the inevitable guy who was staying in until the river hoping for one particular card. I am realizing though, that this is something that is a part of low-limit, and you can't bitch and complain about 'bad play' ... instead you must find a way to deal with it, and I think that being ultra-patient is the only way, KNOWING that in the end, players who play like that will go down. Experienced players chime in here please. Maybe the trading analogy here is the trader who always complains about getting burned by the the MMs or the execution platform or the brokers. Errr, no my friend, it isn't they who are responsible for your losses... in the LONG RUN.

Later in the session, I just started playing really badly. That last hand was just silly. When I recognized that, I left, as I mentioned to you at the table. You'll notice that I left with some of my stake intact, didn't run it down to 0, like someone else I know whose name shall remain unmentioned. :D

Watch out, you might even see me there eventually. Monday I signed up at Paradise Poker. It was nice to see advanced features there over what I had been playing. For instance it gives you your current session game statistics, percentage of flops, folds, raises, etc. Also allows advanced search of the table statistics, so you can choose the table with the higher pots, or quicker hands, etc.

They have one variety of Hold Em that I think I may end up preferring, called Crazy Pineapple. It's the same as regular Hold Em, except you get 3 pocket cards, and after the flop you must discard one of those three pocket cards. Usually the three cards I've been given seem to offer the choice (in which card you discard) between a potential flush and a potential straight. The flop can give you a clue which one to bet on, but it's nearly as easy to bet wrong.

I see another analogy between trading and poker involving studying the books vs. hands-on learning that you do for yourself. There's so much that's been written about poker theory and strategy, but in the end it's a game that you have to play for yourself by going in there and playing it. Just like stocks.

Looks like it's going to still take another day or two for NETeller to actually credit my account with the money that they withdrew from my bank on monday. But I'm thankful for the delay, because it's caused me to keep learning each day.
I'm sure that once I play for real money I will be quickly humbled.
 
I may have missed this, but did someone mention that they have Omaha at these online Casinos, and if so, which one?

As I usually do when I get into something, I am reading everything I can get my hands on holdem. I stopped playing poker many years ago when I left California and moved to Georgia where poker is not legal. I was not aware of what has been going on the last few years. Tournament poker is getting huge. Cardplayer.com is a great site. Past issues of the magazine are archived and you can read the articles. Fascinating stuff. One thing obvious is that there is a lot of different opinions on correct strategy even among the experts and I think, like trading, you probably have to find your own niche.
