Hell, even that cow Sarah Palin understands the problem, as she had to deal with the aftermath of the Valdez oil spill...although she is afraid to alienate her base by dealing the the real problem of oil addiction.

The only possible upside to the magnitude of this disaster is possibility that the root causes will be examined. The warp created is so profound that we have outlaw oil corporations just about regulating themselves under 2 consecutive administrations, setting energy policy, and now controlling the access (particularly for the press) to the gulf by virtually taking over the US Coast Guard as its own repressive state instrument.

There really is not much to wonder.
There has been no credible response.
they are either 1. incompetent 2. scared or 3. so concerned about the threat to the economy they are working behind the scenes for national security reasons.

3. is going to be very hard to prove... and proof will be in the results.
