Please help with my PC problem

When you've got XP reinstalled, you should consider something in the way of system and file backup.

Acronis True Image is good, especially v11 for XP (not free)

Also, Macruim Reflect is reported to be good.. and it's free

Thanks!

This should fix my problem, right?

They have my Sony Vaio model...

"Should" fix problem? Yes it should.... doesn't mean it will. In troubleshooting, you try what seems most obvious first. If that doesn't work, have to look elsewhere.

I am not getting that old error message anymore...

Now I am getting an error message about missing a ha.dll file?????

Am I making progress??

God this sucks!!!

I don't know what that message is, but you shouldn't be getting any such one.

Are you installing from an XP install disk?

No unfortunately I dont have the original one.

I was able to download some files on the Internet that helped with previous message but now I am getting this new one...

I downloaded a hal.dll file on a CD but the PC is picking up on it when I put it into the CD drive......

I really am not in a position to buy another PC right now financially and am getting so frustrated trading on my old dinosaur PC where everything is in slow motion....

Easiest likely solution would be to acquire a valid XP installation disk.

I was hoping you had a different response.....:p

Sincere thanks!!!

I'm going to spend all day tomorrow on this annoying issue

Like someone else said, likely your HDD is not plugged in (came loose) that is the hal.dll error. If that doesn't fix it you can install XP in "repair" mode. Where it doesn't wipe the existing installation or data. Search "repair" XP on the internet.

I have a hal.dll file on the CD in the drive upon start-up but it is not working.

Can anyone help shed light on this matter?

Thanks!!
