shift enter works if there isn't any ambiguity
Pressing shift enter as I said is no different to me clicking STOCKS.Your screenshot shows that you need to press “Shift+Enter”, so why not press it?
That’s how I select the stocks with one click.
Re:
Please help if you can, support via IB not great up to now
This post is really great example why IB support is not great. People can't use a computer, can't read, can't follow instructions shown to them, can't use a keyboard, don't pay attention to details, and they imagine they want to be traders.
Whenever someone complains about IB support, please point to this post demonstrating that there aren't enough people in the world that IB could hire to support everyone who doesn't know how to use a computer. I can't even imagine the volume of pointless questions that IB support has to deal with, even after they've added helpful instructions into their software explaining how to use it. This also takes time away from relevant questions that the support actually could be helpful with.
I use trade ideas for alerts.
I don't know what trade ideas is, how it relates to IB, or why would you be contacting IB support about something else. This is also an example why IB can't do their job. You either have a question about iB or about something called "trade ideas", whatever that is.
Re: I type in the ticker symbol (only way this can be done right? Then that box pops up, the one I gave screen shots for.
It doesn't pop-up if you first press Shift-Enter instead of Enter. Simply don't press Enter. Nothing can pop-up if you type something and don't press Enter, so don't press Enter. Press Shift+Enter instead of Enter. Sometimes it will pop-up if there is no US stock with such symbol but there are others that can be selected.

Just to add to this silly comment which was aimed at me.
I am a former high stakes poker pro, in which 98% of people that try and beat HS poker fail. I did not!
So your comments and what you implied does not count for me!
