How does one learn to trade if not from charts?

That leaves either scalping off of the order book? (something ive never had any joy with after weeks on end of staring at it as advised to do so. I cant see any patterns there. It all seems completely random)

Or Fundamental analysis?? (Im not sure how id really apply this to anything other than stocks though)
