The only reason these problems may never be solved is because the NRA is too powerful and politicians risk losing rural and independent voters. There is no need for automatic (and even semi-automatic) weaponry among the citizenry and should therefore be illegal just as certain other military weapons are presently illegal for citizens to own. No difference. Apply the same existing laws presently applying to prohibited weapons, to automatic and semi-automatic weapons.
