Do you compare and clean the data on the fly?

That could take a high end database like
MS SQL server or Oracle 11.

Some techies around here espouse
simple and speedy binary arrays, which would
require significant programming to manipulate.

Do you export the data to backup regularly?

I'm a DB programmer working on my own system and
contemplating the massive tick data storage requirements.

We run two SQL's and filter data within 15 min max. We only store 15 days worse of data. The rest gets backed up on DVDs
