Someone told me CRT's last longer than LCD's? Could this be true?...LCD's put out less heat but they have some florescent tubes technology to light the LCD's up ...these florescent tubes burn out?
Please don't laugh at my terminology, as I really do not know what I am talking about ...ok?

IIRC the mean time between failure (MTBF) rates of the flourescent tubes is in the neighborhood of 25,000 hours.
If that's so, that give 3 years of 24-hour a day operation, 6 if you run it half the time.
By that time you'll probably upgrade to a larger screen anyway.
Also, every LCD I've ever used has been way too bright so at a less than maximum brightness setting they should last even longer.
Keep your room/office overhead lighting off the screens and to a minumum. That'll allow you to turn down the panel lights to a level that's far less stressful for both your eyes and the internal flourescent tubes.

I agree with your point on the value of cheaper CRT's. I was warned off them as vision-destroyers. Then last year i rented a cabin for August and lugged a 21 inch CRT to Michigan as part of a minimalist trading setup. No adverse effects on my vision, or fatigue, or any of the other hysterics.
By the way, a cheaper and better choice is available in TV's. Sony's "Super Fine Dot Pitch" HDTV (a CRT), will blow away 95% of the flat panels that people buy jus' so they be stylin'. See CNET review. And, it's 1600 dollars. I wouldn't pay more for a lower-performing product even if I had 50 million dollars in the bank. Makes no sense.

I use a pair of LCDâs on my trading machine and a CRT on my internet and e-mail machine. I like natural light and have windows in that room and the LCDâs do not have a glare problem at all and the CRT is a nightmare when it comes to that. I find the LCDâs to have much better color and are easier on the eyes, probably because there is no glare. But if you like the CRTâs then use them, but if you ever put a LCD right next to one and used it for a day you would probably change your mind.
A concern with CRTs is the high voltage used in creating the image. Radiation of various types is produced, including microwaves, x-rays, etc. It's no big deal when watching the game with remote in hand from the couch, but it can be a problem when sitting two feet away for several hours of trading. This is what I've been told, in any case.
By the way, I haven't forgotten about you regarding the PM you sent me. I will keep you informed of any developments.
