A "shreader" nukes one specific file to the degree it can't be recovered by forensics or espionage (sp?). You have to tell it what file(s) to nuke. It turns the disc space that the file occupied into all zeros (as opposed to ones and zeros). A good shreader is going to write those zeros many times over and over on the same portion of the disc so that the file is gone completely and forever. It does not create "shreads".

A "disc wipe" or "disc zero" utility nukes a whole disc. writing all zeros to a disc.


Go visit cnet downloads and search for file shreader and read up on them. I'm sure there's plenty more info out there probably around Wikipedia and similar sites.

i did that last nite and used file shredder,took 30 minutes, about 5 minutes in i was hoping i pushed the right button, i shredded files on c disk and my machine still works, available space went from 82- 83 %, thanks ,both of you

From the looks of the guys in the room, I am going to say they are gamers and based off that assumption I am going to guess its Counter Strike
