Philadelphia Train Wreck Blamed on Republicans

The House is poised to slash $100 million from Amtrak’s funding today

Politico reports that the version of the bill that's already been approved by an appropriations subcommittee would slash Amtrak funding by almost $100 million, and that — even before the derailment.

So let me get this straight more money is spent on Amtrack on a per mile, per customer, or per train run basis then any other passenger railroad on the face of the earth. Yet Amtrack provides service which vastly inferior to every first world nation railroad.

Good points; it should be sold to private sector. Amen

Turn it all over to the private sector. People are going to love toll roads and toll bridges.

Everywhere.

And as there won't be any trains . . .

You know if the engineer wasn't going 100 miles per hour through a section of the track that was designated 50 mph, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Unless you're claiming the engineer was a card carrying member of the tea party, that is.

Toronto has private highways you keep a GPS system in your car that logs when you enter and exit the highway, its the cleanest, most well kept highway in the entire system, I love using the 407.

The intercity bus and air transport systems are provided by private companies. So is all rail service except for Amtrak. They manage to lose money on the most heavily traveled rail route in the country. It's not like fares are cheap either. They even managed to lose millions on their food service. They have a captive audience of rich people and still lose money.

Liberals' solution? More money of course.
