Pharma Bro jailed after judge declares him a ‘danger to society’

Making a threat on Facebook - yup that makes him a genius.

He did it because he enjoys notoriety. Those things hold value for him. Which it did give him notoriety. Unfortunately too much. Just because you don't value internet cred, doesn't mean he doesn't. I think the difference of why you think he is dumb is because you think it's stupid to value internet cred. Which is subjective, but irregardless, there is a low chance of him being able to achieve the success he acquired by not being reasonably smart.

Not sure why it is illegal.

Americans are capitalists, and the rich thrive on backyard Joe needing something.

So what if you raise the price five thousand percent? That is capitalism.
You can say, oh you have no morals.

You are correct, in a society that only values money. Only those who value money can survive.
That's not what he was tried for.

He's actually very bright and gifted. Watch his Harvard University talk. He just likes annoying certain people. He might be a troll, but he may have also saved some lives by sponsoring some clinical trials for rare diseases that no one else would have done. Overall, I think the world would be a better place if we had more people like him. Certainly more diseases would have been cured. Funny world we live in. Expose 140 million people to financial fraud / identity theft, no consequence. Jokingly place a bounty on someone's hair and go to jail.
Exactly what clinical trials did he sponsor (answer-none)? He's done absolutely nothing to make the world a better place, and lots to make it worse. It says a lot if you think anything positive about this asshole, he's really done nothing worthwhile in his life.

Prolly when this guy was a child he was allowed to roam freely with no discipline from his parents.
The sort of kid you will meet in a posh restaurant who is playing up causing a commotion while parents thinks its ok or amusing. Also the sort of kid who is sitting behind you in an aeroplane kicking the back of your seat, again with parents doing FA about it.
So he grows up thinking he can do as he pleases.
People are largely a product of their upbringing.
Parents have a responsibility with children to give strict but loving guidance, because one day the chickens come home to roost.

Martin’s dedication and ability to make things happen have saved the lives of patients who might have not have otherwise had medication. In the case of rare disease Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN), Martin and his fellow researchers developed a life saving medication.

Martin had direct involvement in a new drug developed by Retrophin (RTRX) which is one of the companies that he founded. They recently announced positive results from a mid-stage clinical trial which patients with a rare kidney disease called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, or FSGS responded to treatment with a drug called Sparsentan at more than twice the rate of patients who received a control drug. There are currently no treatments for this disease. So, once this drug gains FDA approval, these patients can shake the hand of Martin Shkreli and his team for making a treatment for them possible.

I also read about that account in an article a while ago, but can't find the original article and don't recall where I read it. Like others here have said, he's obviously made some mistakes. The security fraud was obviously wrong, but hopefully his sentencing will heavily consider that no one lost money and some made huge returns. So yeah, he's made some bad decisions and seems to crave attention, but he's also done some good. Watch his Youtube presentation made at Harvard. I think you'll see that's he's not as bad as Buzzfeed and MSNBC claim that he is.
