Peter Schiff: Somebody Has To Pay For Student Loan Forgiveness

Instead of forgiving student debt, the govt should run state universities free for anyone who has such desire to study there. This is a solution to put end to debate. If this requires to raise taxes then call a referendum.

I agree. Public universities should be free, because a) the state and federal governments are already paying more than half the cost of running these universities; b) it will force down the cost of private universities since they now have to compete with free universities.

2 points:
1. Already clearly addressed by the general media, the republican hypocrisy knows no limits. So many of those screaming fkrs defaulted on their PPP loans, it's become a meme, the same fkrs who railed against those loans but took them anyway and never paid them back...

2. Yes, education should be free, like it is in every modern nations around the world. Republican Reagan ended free education because he disliked and feared educated masses, like those who protested the Vietnam war. The Republican party spent half a century belittling education as a luxury of the rich, an elitist endeavor, all the while sending their kids to private schools and colleges along the way.
I get it, it's much cheaper to brain drain the world of their smart students by subsidizing their studies in our universities than it is to provide free education to our own citizens. I have a simple solution, cut 10% of our military budget and assign it to free education in public universities; that would be plenty enough.

You speak truth;

You're right! Spending more than 3 times the amount of the next highest-spending country is not nearly enough. Maybe public schools should be closed and teachers fired so that there will be even more money to spend on the military. Yeah, that's the ticket!
Without a strong security the country has no own unique identity. Maybe that's what you want. Dissolve the army, dissolve the country.

For all the US spends on the military they seem to have trouble winning wars or getting other countries to listen to them.
I think the US relies on their covert wars via black ops & assassination squads to do their foreign policy. This was especially true in the LatAm wars of the 80s & 90s. I mean they literally assassinated an elected leader of Chile and put the military in its place. And of course the endless chaos in the middle east caused by the neocons.

So anything short of spending a large multiple of what any other country spends is tantamount to dissolution? Fascinating. Then why take offense when I suggest you spend even more? Make up your mind; are you on the boat or off the boat?

Lol, where did you get that from? You win a gold star for most ridiculous statement of the month.

Costa Rica has no military but, as far as I know, it's still a country.

Education is free and has been for a long time.

This is an entirely different but fascinating subject to address. For all its garbage, the internet also provides an amazing amount of free education for those who want to learn just about anything from recognized universities or people of knowledge willing to share it for free.
At the same time, for better or for worse, employers look for delivered degrees from universities as validation of education and use ranked evaluations to choose individuals from the highest ranked institutions. None of these universities in the US are free, and all are expensive.

Agreed, except for the referendum for raising taxes. All that is needed is to take 10% of the military budget (the largest budget of any country in the world by far, both in absolute and per capita basis) and assign it to public universities so that American kids of any economic class can study for free.
