A real trial would also allow witnesses, evidence, and cross examination of the accused. It would also force the jury to sit on the trial under penalty of contempt/prison, and not allow introducing irrelevant arguments/conjectures of crimes by a third party. A real trial requires actual charges. Impeachment charges must be "high crimes and misdemeanors". You cannot conduct a trial on vague notions, there must be an actual crime.

In all of this I have yet to see one instance where Democrats have asserted that an actual crime was committed. Defending yourself is not a crime. Exercising your constitutional right to executive privilege is not a crime.

Yeah, the Senate would like to drag this out so they can grandstand but I think this is going to be over relatively quick and then the Democrats will assert that the Senate has conducted a coverup. Pfffft.
