I believe They will always cite "security" as the need for exclusive use of military aircraft.
Congress has hubris of which we can only dream. They've locked down the entire airspace over D.C. to assure their safety. They cite the need to travel on private aircraft for security reasons. Cost be damned, as it is the They that control the purse strings and will determine where the money flows.
I think perhaps that America has lost its collective mind. Nowhere is this better illustrated than throught the aberrant behavior of our "Reps" on the Hill.

After the 9/11 attacks, it was deemed that anyone with two heartbeats from the Presidency warranted a military jet.
Thus, the House Speaker has always had a jet, including Republican Dennis Hastert. It's just that Hastert only needed a "smaller" jet given that his trips to and from his Illinois home were less than 2,000 miles and did not require the need to refuel.

Fair enough. Shouldn't she only use it in the utmost of need? In other words, fly like the rest of us when we are not in an emergency. And maybe congress should shut up about corporate jet use. They want to preach to failed companies about salary caps, and yet they fail to take any blame for anything. I would say even the worst of CEO's runs their companies better than congress can run the country. Yet, we don't see caps on their perks, whether they need them or not.
