PDT Rule Violation Warning While Trading Futures on IBKR?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trading futures and futures on options on IBKR, but I've been getting warnings about violating the PDT (Pattern Day Trader) rule. As far as I know, PDT rules shouldn't apply to futures or futures on options trading, so this is quite confusing.

Here's a bit more context:

  • My account is primarily used for trading futures and futures on options.
  • Despite this, I'm still receiving PDT violation warnings.
  • I also have some some stocks and stock options but i don't trade them same day.
Has anyone else encountered this issue on IBKR? Is it possible that this is a glitch or a setting I need to adjust? I'd appreciate any insights or advice on how to resolve this.

Doesn't make any sense. I assume it's a glitch. If you email them they'll eventually get back to you. Futures and futures options (which is considered futures) should be exempt from PDT

It sounds like you are trading FOPs on stocks. If you are, then section 1256 does not apply, because those are considered equity options (and the futures on them are considered "equity futures".)

Without section 1256 protection, the PDT rule will apply.
