Except briefly during the Korean War, the United States has never achieved unemployment as low as Ryan and co. are claiming. The Fed believes that the lowest unemployment rate compatible with price stability is between 5 and 6 percent — that is, twice what Ryan is claiming he will achieve.

This is ridiculous; it’s megalomaniacal. If Obama tried to claim that his policies would achieve anything like this, he’d be laughed out of office.

typical right wing knee jerk response. blame the messenger. has it ever occured to you to turn off fox and think for yourself? do you think it possible that the republican budget plan will achieve 2-3% unemployment in a couple years even though in the most booming of recent times 4% is about the best we could do?

Even as Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) proudly touted his "fact-based budget" and decried Democrats' "budget gimmicks" yesterday, he prominently cited the think tank's absurdly rosy numbers, drawing widespread mockery from economists, budget experts, and health care wonks. Even the developer of the model that Heritage used to crunch the numbers can't figure out how Heritage reached its conclusions.

"The Heritage numbers are insane," MIT economist Jonathan Gruber said in an interview with TPM.

any numbers from the Heritage Foundation or anybody else are essentially worthless," Bruce Bartlett, a former Treasury official under President George H.W. Bush,

"The idea he'd go to Heritage for that kind of support indicates he didn't like what the CBO was going to tell him," Stan Collender, a former budget aide for both the House and Senate,

Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, pointed to the projections in the Ryan plan that unemployment would decline by 2% in 2012 as fishy even on their own terms.

Tough time for republicans. Everything they are trying to propose is corrupted by their desire to protect the rich, thus nothing they propose will work for America, or even interest anyone there (well, except for a few).
 
Ho hum. This is how politics works in America:

1. A Democratic picks apart some Republican idea and shows how ridiculous it is. The Democrat is right, this is very easy to do. The Democrat says that this is why you should vote for Democrats.

2. A Republican picks apart some Democratic idea and shows how ridiculous it is. The Republican is right, this is very easy to do. The Republican says that this is why you should vote for Republicans.

A rational person can see that both parties suck horribly, and that they have set the standards for getting on the ballot in such a way as to ensure that there will never be a serious alternative. At the national level both parties are happy to bomb other countries for not being "democracies", and thus not allowing their people the same wonderful choices we get here.
