WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and Manafort's business associate Rick Gates face decades in federal prison and millions of dollars in potential fines if convicted on all counts in a sprawling federal indictment unsealed Monday.

Manafort potentially faces up to 80 years in prison, according to a review of the federal charges and the relevant statutes by The Associated Press. Gates, who also worked for the Trump campaign, faces up to 70 years.

Prosecutors could still file additional charges against the pair. If convicted at trial, the law gives federal judges wide latitude in imposing prison sentences and fines.

How unimpressive. After 6 months of looking under the rug.....this is all they come up with.
Nothing to do with Russian collusion at all, or Trump.

Snoooooooozers!

If the evidence proves that they are guilty, they need to be locked up. End of story.

Too bad not every politician is subject to the same scrutiny.

It is fascinating to see the more extreme Trump boys here with its nothing to do with Trump. His judgement? nah, that was someone else. I know it is just teams with them (and the left too a lot) and the future of the country comes far behind winning a point.

Trump is a Russian oligarch by nature who happens to be an American. His way of thinking would have made Manafort seem attractive. I've watched Trump for years, Apprentice and more, he has a skill-set but that is more similar to a tinker/gypsy in causing so much mayhem people/cops back off than a true heavy hitter. He will have a shit-ton of financial corruption. What is proven, we shall see.

I was talking with another Trump supporter on a plane last week. Hillary was a terrible candidate but the willingness to believe any horseshit for "team/tribal" is a sad thing to see in the 21st century. But humans are just fancy animals so not that surprising.

He was the second I met for whom the primary stated motivator for voting Trump was he LITERALLY believed she was asleep for "the 3am call" (the attack was mid afternoon Washington time as we know). A guy who ran a small business but I guess not one to care much about being flat wrong, just would not bother him.

Humans are prone to confirmation bias stories however this level of ignorance is in my mind at least, very disturbing. He also thought it was Barack Obama who recommended Manafort to Trump? WTF?

The country will continue but people are getting the leaders they deserve and the deserve a good slap now.

With them throwing the book at him I doubt it

Let's just take a look at all the similar cases in the past.

Let's take a look at Whitewater where all 15 people who were indicted faced decades in prison based on the charges but most got off with a couple of years.

Light sentencing for co-operation for sure based on precident.

I have a strong feeling Manafort might be a candidate for a convenient "suicide" or trip and fall. His far younger partner not so and hopefully having both caught will keep the assassination specter at bay.

Manaforts case isn't based on real estate fraud
