Pat Tillman and Mohammad Atta: Ethical Equals?

A more valid comparison is between Tillman and the Iraqis defending their country from American occupation... when this comparison is made, Tillman looks like a murderous jerkoff...

To compare Tillman with Atta is like comparing a small time criminal to Hitler...

done using a DIFFERENT hypothetical situation.

So I guess when a guy murders a bunch of people, and a

But ART, what if he was a minority? You know very well he could not receive justice, seeing as how it is so biased against people of color. What if the intended victim's ancestors had been slaveowners? Doesn't that count for anything with you? Maybe he is a homosexual and is offended by the sight of a Texas family, knowing as he does that they are likely homophobic Christians. Surely you do not support gay bashing? What if they drive an American SUV? Your pals at the Earth Liberation Front think violence is justified in defense of the environment, don;t they?

There are many ramifications that must be weighed here.

One wonders how long it takes him to choose his underwear

there are no civilians. when a country says "we are at war", that means *all* its citizens are at war. the distinction between a soldier and one who feeds the soldier has never mattered in real wars - nor should it - nor will it.

put another way: if you as a "civilian" aren't comfortable with your weapons killing their "civilians", you don't have enough at stake and you shouldn't be in that war. because you're going to lose.

(case in point: i see we just handed fallujah back to the saddamites.)

what was done in vietnam and cambodia was not really any more horrific than what was done to dresden and hiroshima - the difference was in the latter cases we were (more or less) comfortable with the idea of killing a whole lot of people who weren't in uniform.

there has never been any such "code of warfare", not in ancient times - troy, carthage, - not in CE times - jerusalem, constantinople, rome - not in modern times - dresden, hiroshima.

it's an academic myth with no basis in reality.
