passports stats

Quote from ArchAngel:

Passports are good for 10 years, so here are the stats on # of passports issued in the last 10 years (ignoring people who've died since receiving their passport, the total should be the # of people with active passports) -

1994 - 4,895,151
1995 - 5,263,989
1996 - 5,547,693
1997 - 6,295,003
1998 - 6,539,864
1999 - 6,722,198
2000 - 7,292,182
2001 - 7,119,506
2002 - 7,001,482
2003 - 7,300,667

thanks for posting those numbers, its even less than I expected. BTW you don't need a passport to go to Mexico and /or Canada.

Just a thought.

Also, don't forget that many of those are new immigrants, who, if I'm not mistaken, get a passport by default when they get citizenship.
BTW, according to some stats I once heard on Jay Leno's show (and he always checks, rechecks, and double checks his sources :D) half of Americans can't show the states on the world map. I'm not sure if he meant the exact borders (which wouldn't be surprising) or simply the general location.

As far as what someone said above about leaving the country for a while, I do agree it would be helpful. I personally enjoy going back to my home country to get a fresh sense of reality and reignite my drive to do my best. I think living here often makes one complacent.
