passive/index investing books (translated in Chinese) reco needed

Hi

Can you guys give me the names of the best authors on passive/index investing ? And by any chance do you know which ones are translated in Chinese (I can look up their names see if they are translated later though)
Looking for books that can help someone understand the impact of buy in, management and transaction fees on their long term investment, plus give them directions on a diversified buy and hold portfolio they might adopt.

Thanks Xandman, indeed a very famous book, but the presentation states :

"Overall, Malkiels investment approaches focus on business growth and real value and pays attention to the study on listed companies."

I'm not sure it's the easiest introduction, as it's not for someone willing to invest much time in the market through studying individual companies. Do you know of other books available, with a more index fund/low cost ETFs view of the market ?
I read something similar when I was in my early twenties and found it very easy to understand as well as useful.
It seems one of the Vanguards executives has written several books on the topic.
Both traditional and modern chinese are fine btw (Cantonese or Mandarine)

An extra information is in HK, banks offer funds with a 3 to 5% buy in fee and 1.5% yearly management fee, I'd like it to become very clear for those people i offer the books to it's not the best way to invest one's savings. They are looking at both Mainland and offshore/Hk investments though.
 
I think there is a case study on XOM or something. Probably doesn't go beyond a chapter.

The book is not about individual companies. Rather it is about index investing which includes the emphasis of having a proper asset allocation to make passive investing work. It also lays out the ground work for efficient markets hypothesis in a digestible format. This is the single most important book on passive indexing (perhaps, the only book) that you should read. It is on it's 11th edition. But frankly, the material has been regurgitated all over the internet. There really isn't much to it.

Beyond that is "enhanced" indexing...
 
Thanks again Xandman, just ordered the book on taobao.

Any further advice ? possibly with updated advice on building an indexed portfolio with the products currently on the market ? There is no rush though, better give them some time to go through the first book before bringing up distraction.
 
There is an obsession with lowest cost providers. I think those are Vanguard and Dimensional Fund Advisors.

Also, check out Wealthfront. I think Malkiel has something to do with that.
 
My tip is a blog, Google - "monevator". No affiliation to me but good discussion around passive inv.
I go for vanguard global equities 100% and don't bat an eyelid over the chinese shock etc
