Quote from AAAintheBeltway:
Why the anger and insults? I think I have a grasp of the justice system and what probation means. My point is simply that the sentence was harsh, given the fact they let violent criminals and serial drunk drivers walk. I think a day or two would have gotten the judge's point across.
Once again the so rare abilities of basic comprehension and logic fail to evade you. Someday, someday.
The drunk driving issue has nothing to do with it. She got the same treatment for drunk driving as anyone else, well almost. She got probation and a suspended license (along with a BS fine). Very standard, except that the fine is usually 2 to 3 times than what she got. Period. It's what she did afterwards that more than warranted at least 30 days in jail.
Can I start the argument that she got special treatment because some poor shmucks get the book thrown at them for a first drunk driving offense? Or is that completely nonsensical because we all already know that sentences & punishments already vary for the US population depending on the officer who caught you, the judge, your skin color, the particular county, or even your name?
Put your Paris crush aside and realize that she is still getting off very easy. Realize that the suspended license means sh*t to her & so do the fines. Realize that the time spent in "jail" means no financial uncomfort, no lost job, no missed bills, no oppotunities lost (only gained). Realize that she is not even going to real jail or even close. Have you ever been to county? Do you realize that in NJ, if you get caught driving on a suspended license, they impound your car and there is a chance (depending on the locale & the officer) that your @$$ is going to spend a night or two in county jail? No solitary rooms made especially for celebrities, nah, you get to spend time with Tyrone & his buddies who may have just killed someone.
You're gonna get stuck on some hardcore criminal or serial drunk driver that got off very easy and use it as a baseline. How about learning about Compton street sweeps where they would just grab any black male, make up charges and send them off to prison for 2-5 years. California prison business is not booming because serial drunk drivers are getting off easy.
I don't know what reality you all come from, but if I or my friends were to pull off what she did, 30 days in jail would not be at all surprising. Also, we would expect license suspension for up to 5 years, god knows how many points and fines upon fines. And if we got to spend the 30 days in some special rehab center, we would be ecstatic.
My main objection, however, is not the sentence but the unseemly glee of people like Sean Hannity. I'm the last person who would take up for a celebrity, but I find it offensive to see supposedly serious people high-fiving each other over this young woman's misfortune. She hasn't hurt anyone. Would they be even more gleeful if something bad happened to her in jail? Is that what they want?
Because they do not like her. Many upon many reasons not to like that excuse for a human being. Does she do a damn good thing for society? Is it somehow a big positive how she flaunts her undeserved status & riches? Is she sending across a good image (well that's debatable from a male perspective, but anyway)?
I'm sorry, but she is a disgusting human being. And she is promoting it. The world would be a better place if she got drunk and fell off a highrise balcony. Well, that is unless you have some kind of secret dreams about her making a porn video with you.
