That is far from certain.Some presidents may not want to have the same legacy as Ford(lost re election,unpopular with low approval ratings, entire presidential legacy is pardoning a crook)
It IS 100 percent certain. Short of murder ( and even then perhaps there would be a pardon), the successor would clear the slate and the country would move on. This is the way the world works.

It is not 100% certain.When Ford did it he didn't know what the consequences would be.When it happens again a president will ask himself if he wants the same presidency and legacy of Ford,many wont.

Trump has a strong base that will not go away easily.
Here is a question for you. Which voters elected Ford as President? Answer: None. Nor was he ever elected Vice President by voters. So there are any number of reasons why he went poof as soon as the voters had a choice.
