paranoid ? or is Google tracking me - and you ?

Quote from Maverickz:

At a minimum with just tracking cookies they can track every web page you visit, forms you fill out, and everything you search for.

How many types of cookies are there: permanent, temporary, tracking, third party cookies? So, will the clearing of the cookies every time you close the browser window help in protecting your privacy? Hope all get cleared when we close the browsers.

All cookies are "temporary" by nature but the expiration date can be set to expire whenever they want say 100 years from now making them "pseudo-permanent". Some cookies you may even want. If you log in to a web site that has a "remember me" or a "keep me logged in" type option then they do this with cookies. Also shopping websites often use cookies to hold your shopping cart data until you check out. This allows you to add items to your cart, and still browse away from their site and come back and it still knows what you had selected.

Unfortunately, cookies can also be used to store what websites you visit, what searches you perform, what forms you fill out, and much more. The best way I have found to minimize this tracking while still allowing you to use the good cookies is to use Firefox with the NoScript and the CookieSafe plugins. Both work on a domain by domain basis and block all scripts and cookies by default. When you go to a website (such as EliteTrader) You then allows scripts and cookies for that domain only. This blocks the Quantserve scripts and cookies used by ET while still allowing ET to function normally.

My motto is: browsing the internet with Internet Explorer is like banging a crack whore without a condom, you might not get infected the first time, but if you keep doing it, you are eventually going to get something soap won't wash off.

I found an old article from Germany that is related to what Dataa said early in this thread.

It’s also well-known that Google checks for keywords in the content of e-mails sent through its mail program, then displays relevant advertisements in a sidebar. This clever exploitation of information for direct advertising has turned Google into a multi-billion-dollar organization. The company brought in over $16 billion in revenue last year.

Also if you want to make your web browsing a bit more anonymous then try Tor.

for a break there's a couple of online shooting games i like to play, on one site there's
'Ads by Google' and i usually click on one or two to pay for plays
i'd been Search on this site and came across a thread about 'dual routers' - 2 internet
feeds into the router and checked C$ prices of the brands on separate pages
log out of ET, close the other pages, CCleaner, and go to the shooting game site and
low and behold, Ads by Google for routers ! - see attached

coincidence ?

wow ! are they select advertising for Every user Every second of Every day ?
their data mining must be HUGE, and are they selling it on like the Census people ?

Nothing of your emails is secret. All your browsing is tracked by google, every search is tracked to IP address. They even publish things to the local law enforcement.

Take care, Maria

If that is the case, then why are we hearing of sites being down and hacked and people being helpless against hacking? Why has cybercrime grown manifold if IP address tracking was so intensive?
