Owners Scraping Serial Numbers Off & Abandoning Boats: Coast Is Littered

Quote from jnbadger:

Although I have friends who would argue with the first one, and I have never paid for the last one, coming from a family of pilots, I can definitely attest to the one in the middle.

You always pay, one way or another.

People have been abandoning boats for years along the coast and this has nothing to do with the present economic downturn just irresponsible people who can't afford to pay for a boat they once wanted. I am very familiar with the sights of abandoned boats and have been for years (at least on the East Coast). This is nothing new and of course NY Times likes to make people think this is some scoop of a story and some new result of the "depression". They are probably 5 years late on this one.

Huffington post's take on it

"Pricey Pleasure Boats Abandoned By Owners"

Does that boat in the picture look like a "pricey pleasure boat" to you?? Nice try MSM. LOL

where is the yacht capital of America?

I know a lot of places lay claim but in SoFla-Lauderdale in particular-boats are like cars.

Boat = "Bust Out Another Thousand"

The two happiest days of boat ownership are the day you buy the boat and the day you sell the boat.

I've owned many boats over the years and loved them all, currently own 7 at the moment, Bertram 800 in San Diego, Catalina 36 in S.F., a 20 ft Alumaweld, ,Clackacraft Driftboat, a mastercraft, a 10ft Donn Hill pram and a Wilderness Systems kayak @ Tahoe. All have the specific uses and purposes.
I'd rather be on the water diving, sailing, fishing, waterskiing than anything else. Boats are worth every dime and bring me endless joy.

The happiest days of a boat owner's life........the day he buys the boat and then the day he is lucky enough to sell it.
