Overtrading: Share Your lessons learned

Overtrading is a common challenge. How do you deal with it?

Note the definition varies widely from trader to trader. My average number of daily trades may be overtrading for a new trader, but undertrading for another longtime trader.

I love the action and tend to overtrade, as many as 60 trades/day. Anyone else?

My solutions:
  • Avoid 10:30 to 3pm
  • Don't trade inside market days and charts
  • Limit to rockstar charts only, eg gap continuations and 2day high breakouts
  • If I'm red on the day by 10am, I reduce size per trade
  • Slow down if TRIN is close to 1
  • I had custom desk signs made that say "Rockstar charts only" and "Stop overtrading"
What do you do? Thx...

CUT down on frequency/cut down on size. If I thought the market was random I would never cut down on frequency or size.
Avoid mostly low volume stuff unless I've made a profit with it.Avoid mostly stuff I have made a profit with but know the risk is higher=nat gas etfs……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

You trade Micro's? YOU can't even afford an actual Futures Contract??? Well, at least I was right in my initial assessment of you. God, do you even think I use "time"???

Can't waste my time here, and frankly don't know whether to laugh or shed a tear; it's that pathetic. So long, Sucker (but we need people like you; it's how I finance my travels & fine dining!!!)...
