No broker will allow less than the required minimums. Some (like IB) will require more than that.

For broker minimums, check each broker's margin pages.

For the exchange minimums, see a page like http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/equ...aringCode=ES&sector=EQUITY+INDEX&exchange=CME

Add 10% to the number listed for the minimum.

So for ES, it would be $6,105 per contract as the exchange minimum as a specerlator (sic).
 
thankx... I did get me broker on the line.. got my answer... it is about $6000 per contract right now.. up from about $5000 due to the recent volatility
