Nearly every sheriff in the State of New Mexico reassert their fidelity to the Constitution and 2nd Amendment

Some of New Mexico's top law enforcement officers paid a visit to the State Capitol Thursday, with a message for the governor and state lawmakers.

30 of the state's 33 county sheriff's want to remind everybody that they are under oath to support the U.S. Constitution, and that includes the Second Amendment - the right to bear arms.

The sheriffs are clearly agitated by President Obama's call for a ban on assault-style weapons and ammo clips bigger than 10 rounds.

COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni released a letter to citizens on Wednesday, on the heels of several county sheriffs writing letters to the vice president regarding new gun control legislation.

In a letter released Wednesday afternoon, Zanni said that those who are in leadership roles should, "avoid making hasty decisions or taking positions that impact the rights of all people."

Sheriff Zanni writes that he supports the second amendment and he will continue to be an, "avid supporter of Oregon's Concealed Handgun License Program."

Sheriffs from all over Oregon have been writing letters to Vice President Biden this week, saying that they will not enforce new gun regulations that are deemed to be unconstitutional.

Crook County Sheriff Jim Hensley said Tuesday he sent the same letter to Biden that was sent Monday by Linn County Sheriff Mueller.

Douglas County Sheriff opposes gun control

ROSEBURG, Ore. (KMTR) -- Another Oregon sheriff says he would refuse to enforce any new Federal gun law he believes is unconstitutional.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin sent a letter to Vice President Joe Biden saying that he "will refuse to participate in or tolerate enforcement actions against citizens that are deemed unconstitutional".

Linn County and Crook County sheriffs earlier sent similar letters to Vice President Biden.

Madison Co. Sheriff: Gun Control Laws That Violate Constitution Won’t Be Enforced

Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning told WHNT News 19 that his office will not enforce new gun control legislation if he feels those laws violate the Second Amendment. Dorning said he has serious doubts about President Obama’s latest proposals, stating that any gun laws which do pass would have to be in line with the U.S. Constitution and Alabama state law in order to be enforceable.

“The federal authorities can try to enforce it,” said Dorning. “I’m the Sheriff of Madison County. I took a constitutional oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America, to defend the Constitution of the State of Alabama, even if it takes my life. That is my position.”

Sheriff Dorning is the latest in a chorus of lawmen from across America who are saying they may not enforce new gun control legislation. President Obama’s call for a new assault weapons ban and 10-round magazine limit were the headlines in what some say are the most stringent gun control measures ever. The President cannot get the two major revisions unless Congress signs off, but Sheriff Dorning said even if they do, Washington is not his final authority.
