Outside buyers drawn to Detroit's foreclosed homes

If you buy inside the city limits you will be a target for the city government. The voters, government and media blame every ill suffered solely on "rich" people, particularly "rich" white people and extra focus on rich white people who are involved in real restate. Rich meaning having enough money that you don't have to live there.

It's all the people who left decades ago that continue to make the place a hell hole, so goes the "logic". Nobody raises the point that the people who haven't been there for 50 years can't be causing as much of the problems as the people who are there. If you keep blaming people who aren't the problem and couldn't fix it if they tried, and cannot be forced to fix it anyway, then you'll never, ever fix the problem.

But I guess if you don't mind living in misery too much and like having other people to blame, it works out. Been that way for 50 years, so it must be an acceptable trade to the residents.

The city has been bulldozing empty houses for the past 15 years. They push all the debris into the basement and cover it with dirt. It's cheap and better than endless miles of abandoned houses, but it's pricey to dig it all up so you can rebuild.

Also, the city frequently requires new owners to pledge money to fix up the property.

Families are not moving to Detroit. There are few jobs in Detroit. It appears everyone is living on welfare and subsidized housing. There's no incentive to find work. So who are the fools these speculators plan to flip the properties to? Seems to me they're creating another future bailout.

Was reading just that, that a previous mayor even said straight-out, "White people should leave," or similar. So they did.

And then apparently the "rich" black people started leaving, too.

As I read the article about 6000 USD homes in Detroit I got that penny stock risk level feeling. One would really have to be convinced about Detroit's recovery (which, might come about once benefits are cut and folks are forced to work for coolie wages).
That is, unless a pissed off black dude burns your property to the ground.
