Oregon School Board: Teachers with Concealed Licenses Can Carry in Classrooms

Liberal state grows a brain and allows teachers to carry if they have CCW. Bravo!

The St. Helens School Board in Oregon lifted a ban that had prevented teachers with concealed carry permits from carrying their guns on campus.

School board chairman Marshall Porter said, "The current law in Oregon allows for anyone to concealed carry on school grounds. To exclude our staff seems like they're being punished. They should have a right to protect themselves if they choose."

According to ABC News, the decision impacts seven schools within the St. Helens School District. This includes "two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and three alternative schools."

The school board voted four to one to allow teachers with concealed carry to keep their guns with them on campus.

Porter said he voted in the majority because he has kids in these schools and if "something was to happen, and there's a chance that a teacher might be able to protect them, I'm fine with that."

Remember, though, that unless the teacher has the weapon in hand at all times, a student might get the drop on him/her.

Higher chance than without any gun at all. Much higher.

Not to mention that any of those stories where you hear the teacher and class cowering in their rooms as shots were fired throughout the school could have changed dramatically if the teacher had a weapon and wasn't just a sitting duck for a nutcase with a gun to come into their room and start blasting.

You can't spin this one, Ricter. I know you're racking your brain to figure out a way, but there isn't one.

I'll concede that if everyone has a gun the odds of any single shooter taking out 20 others are lessened.
