Order-Entry Keypads

Airspeed,

Would you mind keeping me up to date as to how you set-up your keypad? I am interesting as to how well it works. May have to break down and buy one myself:)

Airspeed,

Who do you use as your broker for NYSE trading and what are the fills like. I am thinking of using IB, and the keypad idea looks suitable for that platform.

The concept of using a keypad is interesting but isn't it only useful as long as you aren't getting partial fills?

For example, let's say I use a key called "ISLD buy offer" to enter a buy order for 1000 shares of ABCD, but for whatever reason, I only get filled on 147 shares, and the stock continues higher. If I want to cancel the remaining balance and dump the shares I got filled on, I can't just hit the "Sell ISLD Bid" key because the software is set with a default size of 1000 shares. So in a case like that, would I have to go back to the "regular" way of entering an order with the keyboard and mouse in order to ditch my stock?

Actually it would depend on what software you are using.

Cyber: If you have 565 shares and enter a "sell isld bid" order it will just sell 565 shares, even if you enter the order for 1000 shares. That is one thing I really like about Cyber's software.

AB Watley: There is a checkbox called "use positions" so when you hit the "sell isld bid" key instead of using the default 1000 shares it will put your # of shares in the order box.

So, I don't know about other vendors, but you will not have partial fill problems with Cyber or AB Watley.

I'm guessing there will be a couple of up and down keys to adjust size and a couple of others for price.

You can just use the arrow keys on your regular keyboard for this while using your XKey for execution methods, Cancel, and Enter. Up to you though....

Dustin,

My reason for the key pad is to ditch the keyboard, or at least keep it a bit out of the way. I really think that the key pad will do just about everything I need even if I include a couple of scroll keys, price up and down keys, etc.

Ever since I got turned on to the keyboard (over using the mouse) I don't think I would ever want to go back to point and click. Hell, I'm too old and my hands are too shakey (from too many parties in the late 60's, I think ) :D to use the mouse...made a few mistakes in order entry...no biggies...but certainly a hassle.

Best regards,

PS- Baron, when do we get that badly needed spell checker? :-)

in one of the earlier posts sbdy mentioned the P8000 (also called PC DASH 2) from saitek. i bought it 2 months ago, cuz i wasnt paying enough attention. i somehow missed that it isnt compatible with win2k.

i called the support for several times but those guys - for some reasons - seem not to be able to program a working win2k driver - since may. they re planning to release one if win XP is out. but somehow i dont believe em. might be better to spend some more to get a _working_ solution...

take care,
