Is ORCL REALY falsifying their financials? I doubt it. They, like every company that's of any size, must be audited up the wazoo. So far I'm $15 ahead on the Iron Condor.

It's funny we should be talking about Oracle here in 2016.

Back in the 1970's I was tasked by the drug company I worked for with choosing a DBMS for the scientific community in the company.

The major contenders at the time were Oracle and Ingres. Ingres was an academically produced system (U. of California, Berkley) and was free while Oracle was a commercial product.

I found Ingres to be far superior in a number of ways and recommended the scientists standardize on Ingres.

ORCL concentrated on marketing rather than basic research and, by pushing in that direction, successfully got itself to be the DBMS standard. Ingres, at the time, was open source (you could get the source on a tape from Berkeley) while ORCL was headed in another direction entirely.
