I don't understand why people want to struggle and go to places where there are more friction and more gravity(-). If you are good at math and know how to count profit/losses, just trade for yourself. You don't want to be working for all the so called big banks and hedge funds in a time like this. They abuse you like no other.

I recently went to several interviews and with their requirements and the salary, you would want to puke and walk out.

These big guys are taking advantage of smart kids in an economic time like this when people are so desperate.


Don't get me wrong, but you are better of at some other places where you will be treated fairly with decent salary. These same banks will come to you when economy turns back.
 
good luck, these high-quant marketmakers/options traders are notoriously difficult to get into, their market is saturated already because nobody in their right mind would leave their job at optiver or peak6 or getco

so in turn, they make the tests ridiculously difficult, and only let in geniuses

i had a test with tibra, that i cheated on, you weren't supposed to use a calculator, but they had me locked in a backroom so i used my phone calculator, and still failed -- they didn't even say anything just sent me on my way all the way back to LA....this was after months of talking to them and trying to arrange a test in Chicago....

i consider myself quite above average intelligence...




honestly, if you can trade already, i wouldn't bother w/ firms like this unless you have a strong ivy league background that you can leverage

I just took the online test of Optiver today for an event that I applied and they said the real test which I am going to have to take in their office will be quite similar to this online one.

In the online one, I was able to finish all 80 questions in 7:30 min (I wish I used my remaining 30 seconds to check my questions but I didn't) and I had 4 mistakes, so my score is I think 76-4*2=68.

So I was wondering if anyone taken both online and office tests, my question is how different the real test is from the online test? Is it same kind or is it way harder?

Also, if anyone of you has questions about the test, feel free to ask me.

Lol, i did THE Same online test and i screwed it up with THE divisions....
THE rest 's actually quite simple...

Think i won't get THE invitation for coming thrsday
 
I had the 80 questions test last Monday in Amsterdam, I had 41 out of 49 right, so my point total was just 33. Actually I think I could've passed. Some insight:

-I had no complicated multiplication 87x76 or something like that, but more something like 12x16
-I failed on one thing: fraction / ? = fraction. E.g: 36/19 / ? = 12/38. I couldn't remember the simple rule for that and I got stuck and wasted a lot of time.
-division is stated as '/', not : as I see in these forums a lot.

On how to make the test:
-How to deal with the question sheet and the answer sheet: I lost at least a few seconds finding the next question on the question sheet and filling in the answer at the right spot on the answer sheet. I got confused because I filled in one answer at the wrong spot on the answer sheet and had to correct myself. The recruitment lady told us in advance if this would happen it's no problem and they will figure out where you skipped it, but OK I guess I was a bit blinded by concentration so I messed up.

Maybe you can keep your fingers pointed at the question and then slide down a bit every time, as not to get confused.
 
have a question, how did you guys get the chance to do the test?
what kinds of backgrounds do you guys have?
i am an bsc.econometrics graduate and applied for a trader position in optiver.
but i didn't ask me for a test and said i got an insufficient background.
what is wrong with my background? anyone knows?

and this time, they just rejected me for a test, and said i am insufficient for skills, by checking my cv.
i dont understand, what is your guys background?why cant i get an invitation for the test?
 
Hi guys,
I read a lot of your conversations and I thing maybe I'll found my answers here. Recently I was contacted by a recruiter for a position in IT dept. in Amsterdam. I started to read this forum and I saw you talk about a test with 80 questions, but at the practice test they give me a test with 34 questions and they told me that this test is "likely" the original one. It's like a sort of preliminary evaluation.
It's there anybody that took that test?
So I am asking not for the one that is full of math questions, because I think that for an IT position it's not so relevant the math capabilities.
The practice test is not related to technology, is more like an IQ test.
Is there anyone that saw that test and can give me some guide lines?
I am a little bit scarred after all I read on this forum.
