Options tax reporting.

Quote from rimshaker:

A gain is a gain. There are no wash sale rules for gains, only for losses. (As a side note, every time I point this out, I get irritated as hell. Uncle sam is always sharing with you for the gains, but you are totally alone when it comes to losses. GRRRRRR)

You would then carry over the first loss amount to your COST BASIS of the second transaction. Like a rollover effect, so your cost basis is now reduced. It can get pretty hairy trying to keep track of dollar amounts when you got multiple carryovers.
I see how it works. I think that answers just about all of my questions except one.
Should I make a copy of my nonreportable 1099 to send to the IRS since they do not have that information or do they have a way of getting it?

The IRS knows everything, dont' bother sending anything if it aint required.

Well, that answers all of the questions that I had about options reporting.
I want to thank all of you guys that helped me out. I appreciate it very much.

Scottrade integrates gainskeeper for free, so all the hard work is done for you. Click my account at the top, then click gains keeper on the left. Double check all the info, then print it and give it to your CPA, or export to turbo tax.

I actually was gonna do my taxes by myself using turbo tax. I have the home and business edition. How do I import that information?

Make sure all your info is correct, then when you are in the gainskeeper section of your Scottrade account, click the export button and choose the export for turbo tax choice. When you get to the investment section of turbo tax it will ask you if you want to import.

Thank you for telling me that. This should make doing my taxes easier.
